It had been a year since I'd ventured out under the Milky Way. Too long. My first night out was to a very special place I'd visited once before. A vast coulee with no one around for miles and miles. The stars came out one by one as I slumbered with my old pup in the Jeep and my 2am alarm came quicker than I would have liked. I ventured down amongst the giant red rocks the size of cars and minivans that dotted the landscape, illuminating each as I photographed them to show the vibrant colours as the Milky Way core rose above. This rock, cleaved in half by hundreds of years of water freezing and thawing, reminded me of a bowl with someone in the heavens above pouring the Milky Way in for a galactic bowl of cereal.
