Alone. And So Far From Home

A great egret is a rare sight around these parts. In fact, this particular one is over 1500km from it's northernmost range which makes seeing it here a very special treat. While I generally prefer closer, colour shots for birds, processing this in monochrome and at the full focal length really brought home the haunting elements of this story: climate change, habitat loss, and the ache of being alone that so many of us can relate to after the events of 2020 and 2021.
