On a late September outing I came across a butterfly that was in pretty bad shape. Its wing was damaged and the cooler temps meant that it wouldn’t last much longer and would likely end up as a meal for a bird or other predator. I gently placed the butterfly on a rock and took a few photos of it before leaving it be and letting nature take its course. The cycle of life happens endlessly in nature and yet it struck me, that this one butterfly and I met at this one moment of time where I could capture its beauty and share its story, giving it meaning beyond the fate that nature intended.

I am grateful for this special encounter. And I think I’ve gotten this macro photography thing dialled in now.
