On a recent trip to California, I ventured into the Costa Mesa Back Bay for a late morning excursion to look for birds. The heat was already getting to me so I found a shaded riparian environment to take a little respite. This spot will full of birds also hoping to do the same and I managed to capture this beautiful image of a Swinhoe's White Eye - a beautiful songbird native to parts of Asia that was introduced to Southern California in 2006, likely due to the pet trade. While these birds are not yet considered invasive, it's an important reminder that human-caused interference in the natural world has far reaching consequences.
