Spring 2025 – New Images Release

It seems hard to believe but we’re already half way through 2025.

Overall, this remains a year of adjustment. Adjusting to professional challenges earlier in the year and adjusting to life without my old pup, Kwinn. But we must seek light throughout the darkness and there’s no better way to do that than by chasing it with a camera. Being out in nature, alone or with friends, allows us to reconnect deeply with ourselves; to shake off the noise and distraction of contemporary “society” and feel what it means to be human again. I spent more time in the field in the first half of this year than I have since the lockdown of 2020, exploring a small part of Ontario for the first time with Jesse and Susan Villemaire and Wayne Simpson and I ventured through some favourite haunts in Alberta. I’ve chased the Milky Way, had some amazing wildlife encounters, and enjoyed the incredible community we’ve created through the Lightchasers Conference. And it’s all helped tremendously with the adjustment periods I’ve been experiencing. I’ve pushed my comfort zone. I’ve taken chances. I’ve made wonderful new friends along the way. And through it all, I feel I’ve made some of my best work.

I feel like I’ve “levelled up” in my photography.

Perhaps it’s knowing, at a fundamental level, the kind of photographs and experiences that resonate with me now that’s resulted in these images. Perhaps it’s just a result of spending more time out and about. Perhaps it’s the power found in images made through transmuting grief and loss into art. Perhaps it’s just luck.

Perhaps it’s a little of all four.

But the end result is the same: Nature has helped sooth what ails me and I’ve made a lot of images that I’m incredibly happy with and that resonate with me. That fuel my passion for this craft and fill my soul along the way.

I’m happy to share these images with you today. Please put them up on the biggest screen you have. Pour yourself a warm cup of tea and enjoy…
