2025 is in the bag and with it, another year is done and dusted! Being named 2024 Canadian Geographic Photographer of the Year placed a high bar on the year ahead and helped me set my focus on keeping photography and adventures a priority. In April I went to Algonquin Provincial Park in Ontario and May saw me hosting our fourth annual Lightchasers Nature Photography Conference in Pincher Creek where we welcomed an amazing line up of speakers and special guests. Storm chasing in June and July proved to be an overall bust, despite finally photographing my first proper tornado.

In August I ventured as far north as one can drive in Canada, finally visiting Tuktoyaktuk and the Arctic Ocean, a location that’s long been on my bucket list. If you’re interested in reading more about that trip, I have a two part blog posted here and here that chronicles my entire journey.

I arrived home from that trip in September and was soon back on the road, filming content with German photography influencers and filmmakers, Krolop Gerst for their Destination series and Clare Gibson for her short film on mental health and photography. I then spent the next couple of weeks chasing fall colour with friends and workshop clients, visiting Lake O’Hara for the first time thanks to my friend Dylan Waldron. In October I managed to photograph Comet Lemmon and in November gave a talk on winter photography with McBain Camera and Nikon Canada. November also saw the return of snowy and short-eared owl photography season and the launch of our Lightchasers ticket sales. In December I sat down with my good friends Chris Gibbs and Joe Desjardins from the Nature Photo Guys podcast and had a blast chatting with them. You can check out the interview on YouTube. I wrapped the month with some snowy wildlife photography and a great sunrise in Banff with my good friend Monika Deviat.
