Cracks and Faults

This was an absolute dream shot for me. Long had I wanted to visit Death Valley and Badwater Basin under the stars and the weather gods saw fit to gift me with ideal, dream-like conditions for my short time there. It had rained in the area earlier in the day, helping to fill the reflective pools of hexagon-encrusted salt. I had arrived at midnight, trying in vain to sleep for a couple of hours before heading into the flats. Around 3am, the skies had cleared revealing darkness and stars like I have only seen a handful of times before. I ventured into the dark to await the rise of the Milky Way over a landscape that has captured my imagination for a very long time.
