The old limber pine trees that line the hills along the Southern Alberta foothills are endlessly fascinating. The dead ones have trunks that twist and turn in all sorts of ways making for incredible subjects. My friend Frank and I patiently waited for the right conditions to explore this ridge, scouted in the evening light and returned at 3am to photograph this beautiful old tree as it framed the Milky Way core. It was challenging to get the low level lighting just right but the patience paid off in the end.
