On August 1st, 2022, a monster storm rolled over central Alberta, dropping the largest recorded hail in the province’s history and obliterating dozens of vehicles as it crossed the QEII highway near Innisfail. This shot was taken just minutes before it crossed the highway at Niobe. With the storm hot on our heels, I knew I only had a minute or two to take this photo but it’s a shot I’ve long dreamt of every time I’ve driven by this elevator so I knew I had to make it happen. As soon as I’d gotten my shots, we raced on ahead trying to stay out of it’s path before finally cutting south and letting it pass us by an hour or so later. This is a handheld, 14 image pano. Check out my recap of storm season 2022 on my blog to see more photos from this chase!
