This monster, tornado-warned supercell dropped golfball-sized hail and intense bolts southwest of Drayton Valley just before 10pm on August 2nd, 2023. This is an area I do NOT like to chase in at all, especially at night (bad road network and no clear lines of sight), but this beast lured me into the sticks nonetheless and I managed to find a reasonably decent viewpoint to watch this incredible blue hour storm. Oh how I wish this was out in the open prairie over an old barn or canola field but beggars can’t be choosers, especially this year.
This was my last chase of the 2023 season and I’ll most definitely be dreaming of scenes like this for a long time!
